Bovine feeding is one of the fundamental aspects in the contribution of energy and essential nutrients for the well-eing of the animal, therefore, in Colombia new alternatives are proposed daily to help meet this demand. For this reason, this research aimed to evaluate the composition and concentration of total polyphenols and condensed tannins in the leaves of the Mussaenda Erythrophylla plant for its use as a supplement in the diet of bovines, based on a proximal analysis of the plant in which proteins, lipids, moisture, ash, fiber and carbohydrates were evaluated. For this, the protein analysis was carried out by the kjeldahl method yielding values of 10.03%, for the lipid analysis it was carried out under the soxhlet extraction yielding 3.046% of the final result of ethereal extract, in a conventional oven the humidity was evaluated the plant where a HF (initial humidity) of 63.1% was obtained but after drying, a HF (final humidity) of 0.153% was obtained; By means of a muffle, the ashes of the Mussaenda were analyzed with a value of 8.1%. The fiber analyzed was the most relevant data with values of 15.1% in the sample. In addition to the concentration of polyphenols using the Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and mathematical modeling, there are concentrations of up to 195.5 µg AGE / mL and the extraction of condensed tannins based on Terrill using reagents such as vanillin, Butanol / HCL and Caquetina, as the main concentrations, concentrations up to 9.2% (0.0921) of tannin content. In addition, an analysis was carried out by means of a leaching where two types of solvents were evaluated: Methanol and butanol for the reduction of polyphenols and / or tannins in the Mussaenda Erythrophylla leaf, giving butanol as the most effective for the reduction. of these secondary metabolites, bringing them to levels and concentrations of 81,432 µg AGE / mL and 6% (0.0644) respectively, therefore based on the results obtained, Mussaenda Erythropylla must be chemically treated for use as a supplement in the diet of cattle. , since this without a previous treatment will not fulfill the established parameters such as tannin concentration below 7% and polyphenols below 100 µg AGE / mL for the use of this.
